This comes up not infrequently each year because unlike most resorts, the TP groups are in 2-year segments so inevitably a good friend or family member graduates to a new group while a younger one, by only a year or one grade, does not (with such a high rate of returning guests, this actually plays a vital part in helping to discourage the natural formation of cliques within groups and allowing us to maintain such a welcoming and inclusive environment for all).
There have been times in the past where we’ve had too large a group and had to split it into two, and it’s a decision we may be taking this coming summer in order to ensure all groups can follow through with social distancing and other safety guidelines without having to heavily restrict what activities they can do or where they can go. Depending on how things develop, there may be a number of activities throughout the week that can be enjoyed safely as a whole group.
Frankly, we are still considering whether to accept requests for children to remain together should their group be split. I’m sure you can appreciate the significant challenges this would represent, and that we wouldn’t be able to guarantee every request, however, we do understand it is likely to be a concern shared by a number of our returning guests. The very “soul” of the Tyler Place is making all children (new and returning) feel welcome and we are ever mindful of implementing anything that could inadvertently impact our ability to do that. As always, it is the responsibility of the T.P. Children’s Director and our team of counselors to make sure each year children and teens have a happy vacation with old and new friends, and whatever we decide to do, you can be sure it will be wholly reflective of that goal
