Nature & Outdoors

As a resort surrounded by beautiful Vermont nature on all sides…

…it would be tough to not enjoy any part of it during your stay here! There is much to learn about Vermont’s beautiful environment both on our property and nearby, so take the opportunity to explore! Head out on your own or join us on our guided trips (no added charge, of course!) and see what you can find.

A favorite family activity is the guided trip to Proper Pond, a small property located close to the Tyler Place. You will see many of Vermont’s little critters such as frogs, turtles, fish, birds, bees, and more. There’s nothing quite like catching your first frog!

Lots to Explore

Even though the Tyler Place offers more to do right on the property than most guests can squeeze into a single family vacation, many families take the opportunity to explore the surrounding hillsides and farms of Vermont. Showcasing these local farms connects you directly to our community—and the historic roots of the Tyler Place Family Resort, formerly a working farm for many generations. Many of these local purveyors help us fill our tables, with everything from eggs, meats and produce to the maple products that stock our Gift Shop shelves.

Our gardening expert, Claudia, has tons of gardens for families to explore during their week. Take a walk down our expansive gardens, and you’ll find much to enjoy. Stroll through Claudia’s Shaker Garden and learn about the many herbs and flowers that grow here. Interact with the ducks, chickens, goats, and ponies that live near her gardens. Explore the ‘Feel the Forest’ activities to get a sense for the sights, smells, and feels of our local Vermont flora.

“We discovered The Tyler Place in 1988 when our son was 3.  2019 is our 26th year – our “summer place” without any of the chores. The best staff. Child guests get acquainted quickly, the counselors are so good with even the shyest kids. Three wonderful meals a day! Beautiful grounds! There is something for everyone and plenty of activities/sports, etc. and you can do absolutely nothing but walk the grounds and find a quiet place to read or meditate. Really enjoyed a week without television and a chance to unplug and let the stress melt away. I just counted and learned that this is our 26th year at The Tyler Place – with our youngest in 1988 from ages 3-16, and our grandson. We were so happy when we learned that we could enjoy “The Taste of Vermont” Labor Day week even if we had no children to bring. We’ve been here every year since 2015. Thank you, Tylers!”

“This vacation was ideal. Our kids were more than entertained. My parents and brother had plenty of activities that they enjoyed and my husband and I were able to go off on hiking, biking, sailing and other adventures. Our afternoons with the kids were so much fun and our meals alone were satisfying and delicious! Thank you to the Tyler family and your amazing staff who consistently delivered a vacation that met everyone in our three generation family needs! Every evening our 4-year old has asked us to move here forever!”

“After a terrific year one experience, we weren’t sure if the the T.P. could live up to our now much higher expectations (especially since we brought friends who bought our sales pitch on the resort). But it did! We had an even better vacation this trip – making more friends, doing different activities and enjoying the great outdoors! We love this place and think our friends did too, phew! Look forward to returning.”
