2019 Application Information for International Students

Thank you so much for your interest in working at The Tyler Place this summer! All applicants interested in working here must be able to work from May 21 to September 7, 2019.  In addition, applicants need to have completed at least 2 years of University by June 2019 (or have completed one year of University and have at least one year of experience traveling and living away from home). We give preference to applicants who will be at least 20 by June 2019.

International Students who are applying to work at The Tyler Place must get their J-1 Visa through one of the following sponsor organizations that we work with: CCUSA, InterExchange, Resort Leaders, or IENA.  You need to check with these organizations to make sure you can work in the USA for the dates listed above (each country has specific date requirements).  If this is your first time working in the USA, you must apply as a First Timer. You cannot apply as a Direct Placement or Returnee. If you are applying for a Counselor position, you can use CCUSA or InterExchange.  If you are applying for a Support Staff position you can use CCUSA, Resort Leaders or IENA.

In addition to providing you with a J-1 visa, the organizations mentioned above do the work that is impossible for us to do because we’re unable to meet you in person – they interview applicants, check references, do police background checks, provide us with a health report, evaluate English communication skills and send a complete and detailed application as well as references to us to review before we make a job offer.  When we receive your application and references from your sponsor organization and have had a chance to look them over, we will contact you for a phone or Skype interview.  After the interview, we’ll let you know, as soon as we can, if we have decided to hire you.  If we don’t hire you, your application will be made available for other camps or resorts to review.  Please be sure to tell your visa sponsor representative that you want your application forwarded to Tasney at The Tyler Place! Also, you should begin the application process as soon as possible. Jobs fill up quickly and we hire on a first come, first serve basis.

It’s important to know that the organizations mentioned above charge The Tyler Place for participant fees (in addition to the fees you pay to apply).  The fees they charge us may cover your airfare, recruitment and screening charges, visa paperwork, DS forms, etc.  For new applicants, these fees may total as much as $1800 and any fees we’re charged will be deducted from your paychecks over the course of the summer. (Fees vary depending on the organization you use and a variety of other factors.)  However, as long as you stay for the 15-week summer season, we can promise that you will make at least $4,000 (minus taxes) for the summer.  Most of the taxes that get deducted will be returned to you as long as you file a tax return at the end of the year.

If you get a job at The Tyler Place, you will be working approximately 40 hours per week for a 15-week period.  We provide staff with free housing and meals (3 per day plus an evening snack). There’s also a bonus of up to $400 at the end of the season and opportunities to earn additional income if you’re interested.  Staff are welcome to use many of the resort facilities during their time off (pools, Jacuzzi, fitness center, tennis, basketball, canoe, kayak, sailboats, etc.).  We also provide you with free transportation from the airport or bus station in Burlington, Vermont to The Tyler Place when you arrive (and back to Burlington when you depart).
